Listening to your heart and finding your passion

So, here's the thing. In a few weeks, I'm starting my sixth and final year of Dutch high school. If the intimidating exams didn't cause enough stress already, there's also the big decision that is my future course of study. And there's so much to choose from!

That's not the problem though. I've visited a few open days last year, but nothing really sparked an interest or passion from me. Sure, the courses sounded very interesting and challenging, but they just weren't for me. And about a week ago, I started thinking that maybe there wasn't anything out there for me. I felt like I didn't really have a passion or any real and useful talents. But then I tried to do that thing that every cheesy movie or book ever has told me to do: I listened to my heart. And then I realised that I did have a passion! For as long as I can remember I've always had a certain fascination with the fashion industry and what clothes can do to people. I truly am happiest when I'm doing something fashion-related. Whether it's reading a magazine, shopping or picking out my outfit for the day. Those are the things that truly make me happy and that I'm passionate about, as simple and meaningless they may sound. But the thing is, your passion isn't meaningless. It's what makes you stand out and what makes you unique. Realising this was very illuminating.

So I've started looking at courses that are related to my passion, and I stumbled upon the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. This school offers some really interesting fashion courses and I think one of them might be perfect for me. I've yet to discover which one, but at least I now know where my heart belongs.

So, however cheesy it may sound, I've learned that you really should listen to your heart. And as for finding a passion: if you haven't found it yet, keep looking.
